Sometime in 2020, actor Amit Sadh accepted an offer to endorse a brand of alcohol, which he calls his moment of weakness. Since then, he has decided to avoid all sponsorship offers, especially those that cause health problems.
“I will not sell protein shakes because they are not good for your health. Even if they give me billions, I will never take it. That’s the kind of guarantee I have. I will never endorse a brand of alcohol. You must not drink. It’s not good for your health. We must be our senses,” Sadh tells us.
The 39-year-old continues: “I will never promote anything that is not good for your health. If after hearing that statement, brands don’t want to give me ad offers, then don’t give me an ad. He is well. I am an actor, bahut kaam hai, aur bahut support hai. Koi darr nahi hai. I came here to act, not to advertise.”
This is because “as a human being and an actor” he has a responsibility to the people who admire him. Here, the actor looks at the lapse in his judgment.
“In 2020, all my projects including Breathe, Yaara, Shakuntala Devi, Avrodh: The Siege Within were released, and I received a lot of love from everyone. Just being somewhere in the clouds, I was bombarded with so much love and adulation. So I bought Jeet Ki Zid, which I got busier with, got a commercial for an alcohol brand,” he said, adding that he felt something was wrong with the deal.
The actor, who is currently in the US working on a project, adds: “I even told the manager at the time that I wasn’t convinced, but he gave me some examples, telling me I was overthinking it. I told him that in my country, youth are more sensitive and we need to contain that. But I went ahead despite my doubts. When it came out he told me not to check Instagram because some fans are neutral but some are upset. I spent the night reading these messages, and the next morning I admitted my mistake. At that time, no matter how busy I am or whoever tells me, I will be my own man and not be influenced by anyone.”
From that day until today, he trusted his instinct as he took every step of his life. Following his heart, he turned down another deal with a major international alcohol brand, just two months after the first incident.
“They even increased the offer. When I said no, I got a backlash with people telling me that no one would offer me ads if I kept turning them down… I was so disgusted with people threatening me. For that, my answer is that I don’t need it. I didn’t come here for that.”
He adds: “I don’t need brands that cause my fans unhappiness, bad health and addiction.”
At the moment, the actor wants to focus more on acting than sponsorship deals. “I don’t want to make announcements right now. I want to focus on acting. I don’t want to be greedy. My projects are doing well and they give me enough income so that I can take care of myself and my closed ones. I am very satisfied and happy”, he says as he says goodbye.
