After his breakthrough role in Ram Teri Ganga Maili opposite Rajiv Kapoor, Mandakini went on to work on several films over the next few years before taking a break after his marriage in the early 1990s. His last release was Zordaar in 1996. Last year, she released her first single Maa O Maa, which also marks the debut of her son Rabbil Thakur.
In a new interview with Pinkvilla, Mandakini said: “During those days, heroines weren’t much in demand. They were only used for some songs and romantic scenes.” She added: “When we were working on films, we would earn about ₹1- 1.5 lakh for the full movie.”
Last month, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, when Mandakini was asked about her comeback after 26 years with the song Maa O Maa, she said: “It has been on my mind for a long time that my children are old enough now and I can come back. to work. I was thinking about all this when I met Saajan. We’ve known each other since our youth. We’ve known each other since the time we arrived in Bombay. Our association is old, he liked the fact that I wanted to come back and he had the idea right away, right away. Also, it’s a sweet song with good music and lyrics. I thought it would be good. Movies can take time – you choose the subjects and listen to the story, etc., a song is a song. The song also talks about the mother’s feelings. So I just decided to go with him. It’s better to start with a smaller project after so long.”
