While the film collected more than ₹250 crore at the box office in India, Shahid’s last outing in Jersey, where he played the role of a failed cricketer who returns to the game. The film failed to bring the audience to the theater.
Talking about the two films, Shahid explained the reason behind Jersey’s constant release date delay after the pandemic. He told the Bombay Times: “We waited two years to release the film. As painful as it was, I don’t think it’s prudent to release a film at a time when people’s mood was to choose health over entertainment. It was the right call.”
“You don’t want to release a family movie at a time when people aren’t sure to come out. This is a family movie. My last movie, Kabir Singh, was technically an adult movie, but the number of people who enjoyed it and watched it with their families is unbelievable. Somehow, he got to the family space, despite being nervous and aggressive. Jersey is a family movie because it has those emotions that you need to experience with family and friends,” he added. The actor also added that his equation with his daughter Misha helped him understand Jersey’s father-son relationship.
Shahid will be seen in Raj & DK’s upcoming series Farzi. It marks his OTT debut, and also stars Vijay Sethupathi and Raashii Khanna. It will be released on Prime Video.
