Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri shared a throwback selfie with the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput on Thursday night, recalling their conversations with him and how the two would bond. Vivek, who is on a roll with the success of his latest release, The Kashmir Files, said they would talk about their similar origins, as they both come from small-town, middle-class families. On Twitter, Vivek posted an old monochrome selfie in which he looked at the camera while Sushant smiled in the background. He was dressed in a baseball cap and striped sweater. Sharing the photo, Vivek wrote: “Remembering Sushant Singh Rajput. I’m in the exact same place where we spent many nights talking about life, cosmos, God particle, #Paani by @shekharkapur and struggles of a small-town middle-class person in Bollywood.”
Sushant was a self-confessed geek and often expressed an interest in Particle Physics and Astrophysics. An engineering dropout, he often expressed his regret at not being able to earn his degree. Paani, which Vivek mentioned in his tweet, was an ambitious film released by Shekhar Kapur with Sushant in the lead.
The film, however, was shelved months after the actor began preparing for it, when Yash Raj Films dropped out. In a former interaction with Manoj Bajpayee, Shekhar said that he and Sushant both cried when this happened. “When the movie was shelved and he realized he wasn’t making the movie, he cried a lot. I cried too. I cried every time he cried because I was also in love and deeply involved with it,” he said.
Sushant died in June 2020 and police determined it was suicide. After his death, several central investigative agencies launched investigations into his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and others connected with him in cases of narcotics, embezzlement and even complicity in suicide.
